At Raven & Wren Wellness, we offer microneedling as a service for those in need of a highly effective, yet minimally invasive, method of proactively caring for aging skin, or repairing damaged skin.
Microneedling, also commonly referred to as “collagen induction therapy,” induces the skin to produce collagen and elastin. The microneedling healing process diminishes fine lines and deeper wrinkles, gently resurfaces acne scars, fades age spots and sun spots, and creates more tone: resulting in a smoother, more balanced complexion.
The treatment involves using a motorized pen fit with sterile, single-use, surgical stainless steel needles that glide over the skin, creating “microchannels.”
According to Dr. Tito Vasquez, a Yale Medicine plastic surgeon, “by creating tiny channels through the skin, allowing for the infusion of serums and active ingredients more efficiently, this treatment will stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and tone.”
Each microneedling session includes individualized serum application and an aftercare product kit. One of the most impressive things about microneedling is that — unlike skin peels, dermabrasion, and laser therapies — it is gentle, nearly painless (we use numbing cream), and requires very little down time.
Microneedling Aftercare…
Any potential side effects of microneedling are temporary and usually minor. The procedure may cause short-term swelling, redness, and skin flaking, which can last for 1-3 days.
Most people can return to their regular activity and skincare routines within a day of treatment. Skin will be more sun-sensitive after treatment, so sunscreen is strongly advised – avoiding the sun for 24-48 hours after treatment is ideal.
Precautions…
To note, microneedling may worsen active skin breakouts, so people with inflammatory acne or oral herpes should not be treated with microneedling until the lesions have cleared.
Those with a history of oral herpes may wish to be prescribed an oral antiviral medication for one week following treatment because the procedure may stimulate a new cold sore.
