Postpartum Support

During the Postpartum period, also known as the "fourth trimester"...

You’ve just had a child, and while you’re bonding with your newborn and taking in this time, you may start to go through some significant physical and emotional changes. This is a joyous time indeed, but we will also be here to help and support you through this period of Postpartum. We use Eastern Medical acupuncture methods to support you as your body and mind adjust to the postpartum experience.

Physical Changes in the Postpartum Period:
After childbirth, your body may undergo physical changes as it heals from the labor and delivery process. You may experience vaginal bleeding, breast engorgement or soreness, perineal pain, constipation, fatigue, and weight loss. It is important to remember that every woman’s postpartum experience is different, and some women may experience more or fewer physical changes than others. The use of acupuncture may benefit these changes including.

  • Post-delivery pain swelling
  • Abdominal cramping
  • Excessive or prolonged bleeding
  • Digestive issues
  • Constipation
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Hair loss

Hormonal Changes in the Postpartum Period:
After giving birth, your hormone levels may shift dramatically. Hormones such as estrogen and progesterone that increased during pregnancy drop rapidly, while hormones like prolactin, which help with lactation, increase. These changes can lead to mood swings, anxiety, and depression. It is common for people to experience the “baby blues,” which is a temporary feeling of sadness or tearfulness that typically resolves within two weeks. While it is common for women to have the “baby blue”, some women may experience postpartum depression. The use of acupuncture may benefit these changes including.

  • Postpartum depression
  • Hormone Balancing
  • Hot flushes

Emotional Changes in the Postpartum Period:
The postpartum period can be a time of great emotional upheaval for new mothers. Adjusting to life with a newborn can be hard and overwhelming. You may start feeling more anxious and worried about your ability to care for your baby and experience feelings of guilt or inadequacy. It is important for you to take time to care for yourself emotionally during this time. The use of acupuncture may help with:

  • Postpartum anxiety

Sleep Disruption during Postpartum:
Your new child’s feeding times may make it more difficult and challenging to get a good night’s sleep. This can have an impact on your overall mood and well-being. The use of acupuncture may reduce some of these issues including:

  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Night Sweats

Breastfeeding in the Postpartum Period:
If you choose to breastfeed your child, this can come with some challenges. You may experience sore nipples, engorgement, and difficulty latching. The use of acupuncture may support you in these changes including:

  • Mastitis
  • Low milk supply

Postpartum Complications:
You may experience some complications with C-Section healing hemorrhaging.

Self-Care in the Postpartum Period:
Taking care of yourself is incredibly important during this time! You’ve been through a lot and you need to heal as much as your need to take care of your newborn. You can rejuvenate yourself and treat postpartum with therapeutic massages. At Raven and Wren Wellness, we hear you and we see you.

We also provide postpartum therapeutic massage.
